Confirming the incident, Serowe Police Commander, Superintendent Poloko Oteng, said they received the report on Friday, whilst preliminary findings suggest the attack occurred in the early hours of the morning. Oteng added that investigators are still working to establish what led to the fight between the couple.

A 43-year-old man, believed to be the deceased’s boyfriend, has been arrested and is in police custody, assisting with investigations.

“We have recorded two murder cases this weekend. This is worrisome because it appears murder cases, which had previously been a concern in the area, have resurfaced,” Oteng said.

He noted that through the ongoing Operation Pabalesego II, police intend to intensify outreach efforts, particularly in remote areas.

“The plan is to visit cattle posts and lands to sensitise people on violent crimes and other pressing issues. We suspect we may not have been reaching people residing in these areas, hence the decision to engage them directly during this campaign,” he added.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
