This distinguished appointment places him amongst a group of experts entrusted with shaping the quality and credibility of publications.
‘’It is a great honour because opportunities like these are rare to come across since there are only few spots available,’’ he said expressing what the appointment means to him. ‘’I must thank the Botswana Embassy in Ethiopia for they drew my attention to these papers. I applied and got lucky my abstract was chosen amongst many present there.’’ Letshwiti, formerly Mmegi scribe, explained that his body of work coupled with his experience including his educational background made him an outstanding choice for this role.
‘’I bring valuable experience, a high record of academic experience, was awarded the Kellogs’ Foundation sponsorship for my first masters degree, so I had to qualify for that sponsorship, published a journal article so that is why I can claim to be a scholar of repute, I have published across the world, spoken in conferences and also worked as journalist,’ ’ he said. He further went on to state, ‘’I have a book chapter with colleagues in Nigeria, been a reviewer for journals across the globe including United Kingdom to name a few. I can work in inter-cultural context.’ “I did History and English as majors at the university, because obviously for you to edit you have to be good in grammar. That is why they were eager to appoint me, he added.‘’ For Botswana, Letshwiti’s appointment stands as a moment of pride reflecting the growing recognition of Botswana scholars within influential continental institutions and highlights the country’s contribution to Africa’s governance, democracy and development scholarships. ’’This appointment benefits Botswana since Botswana is under-represented, an appointment like this puts a positive shine on our country that we have people who are capable of such a position. It also shows that our being educated by the country was not in vain,’’ he explained. This appointment is not only a personal accomplishment but also a meaningful step toward strengthening Africa’s intellectual landscape at large.
