The event, which drew a strong crowd of supporters, coaches, and sporting officials, reaffirmed the growing strength and appeal of boxing in Botswana. The championships featured bouts across multiple weight categories, with each match displaying outstanding skill, endurance, and determination. This year’s championships brought together teams from regions across Botswana, all competing for top honours and team dominance. The final team standings reflected the depth of talent present in local boxing clubs, with Fracistown Boxing Club emerging as the winner after accumulating 14 points. Close behind were Titan with 13 points, who impressed many with their resilience and technical discipline, followed by Prisons Boxing Club, rounding off the top three. Individual excellence was also a highlight of the event, a boxers vied for national titles in their respective weight categories.
The championship saw explosive matches, including a standout performance by Keorapetse Katlego of Titan Boxing Club in the Bantam (54KG), whose dominance in the ring earned him a well-deserved applause. Another thrilling match featured Lesau Odean of 125 Boxing Club, who out-boxed his opponent, Boifang Kenaope of Diamond Boxing Club, with exceptional speed and tactical precision, leading to a knockout in the lighter welter (63.5kg) weight category. Kenaope was left in disbelief over his loss. 'Championships came just soon after a professional boxing match, so I really did not have much time to prepare, so boxing happened,’’ he highlighted. The women’s division also delivered moments of resilience, with athletes showcasing not only skill but also inspiring confidence and discipline. Jennifer Sechi of Diamond Boxing Club claimed victory against Bakwadi Tylor of Molepolole Boxing Club in the 48kg weight category, while Lethabo Modukanele of Titan Boxing Club delivered one of the most memorable bouts of the day in the 52kg weight category against Mokoduwe Olorato of Diamond Boxing Club, demonstrating the growing strength of women’s boxing in Botswana. BoBA commended the athletes and thanked sponsors, coaches, and supporters for making the event a success.
Dirang Thipe, who is the Botswana Boxing Association president, noted that the championships continue to strengthen the national boxing pipeline. ‘’This championship is a testament to the talent and dedication that exist in our country. It is a platform where boxers come to showcase their abilities, push their limits, and strive for excellence,’’ he said. Spectators also expressed their excitement, with many praising the talent displayed and the growing popularity of the sport. Beyond completion, the event highlighted the unity and sportsmanship that define Botswana‘s boxing fraternity. From young debutants inspired by the legacy of national champions to experienced fighters sharpening their skills, the championship provided a platform for growth, exposure, and national pride.
