Police XI to add experience amid relegation threats

The one-time league champions returned to the top fold this season but they are struggling to get out of the relegation zone.

Over the weekend, they put a spirited display in a 0-0 draw against Township Rollers in the FNB Premiership match played at the VTM Arena on Saturday afternoon.

With the point gained, Police moved a point from the relegation position as they now sit on 13th and tied on 10 points with Santa Green.

The Jungle Kings started the Sunday game slightly on the back foot, but were equally competitive as both sides struggled to find a decisive breakthrough.

Despite a balanced contest, clear-cut chances were few and far between, with tight defending and disciplined midfield play prevailing.

Rollers looked the more composed outfit, but were denied by resolute Police XI defending. On the other side, the hosts threatened on a handful of occasions, but could not unlock the opposing backline.

Popa had a few moments to worry about towards the end of the tie but the Jungle Kings were kept at bay by Kabelo Dambe.

Police XI head coach, Parazanyi Mandivenga, was pleased saying his side wanted to contain the Rollers threat and looked to take chances on the break.

He however, said there is a need for some experience in the team as they to avoid the drop.

“Since we are going on a break and a window period, I think we will need to beef up the team with three or four experienced players,” he said when speaking to Sport Monitor following the game.
