The suspect was reportedly hitchhiking when the vehicle he had boarded was stopped during a routine 'stop-question-and-search' operation.
During the operation, law enforcement officials instructed all passengers to get off with their luggage.
Whilst searching the man’s bag, the police officers found five wrapped plastic packets containing what is suspected to be dagga, weighing around five kilogrammes.
Mogoditshane Police Station commander, Superintendent Mbiganyi Letsholathebe, stated the suspect failed to account for the illicit substances found in his possession, leading to his immediate arrest.
“The substances will this week be taken to the police laboratory for further tests and analysis,” he said.
Letsholathebe added that drug-related offences, particularly involving dagga, remain a concern in their policing area.
He said investigations have revealed that a number of locals are involved in the trade of illicit drugs, with dagga and methcathinone topping the list.
“The sad part is that these drugs also find their way into schools, turn people into addicts, especially the youth and subsequently destroy their lives,” he said.
