The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) executive secretary, Ame Makoba, acknowledged the outcome whilst emphasising the party’s resilience. “We accept the results, though we had hoped to win,” Makoba said. “Remember, we just lost power, but we fought, and the numbers clearly show that the BDP remains strong. Our members must toughen up, stay motivated, and continue working hard.”

For the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), candidate Tshepang Brooks also expressed satisfaction with the party’s performance. “It has been a long time since my party contested in this area,” he said. “We have done well, and these results show that the party has the potential to grow and establish a stronger presence in Kgalagadi South.”

Similarly, the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) candidate, Phenyo Sebatlanyane, stated that he accepts the election results and respects the democratic process. Efforts to reach independent candidate Kaveri Kapeko were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to repeated phone calls.

The UDC candidate, Tokyo Modise, who emerged as the winner, also said the elections were free and fair. “I think the only challenge was rainfall. But different parties were ready, as we were told that we should expect it by the District Commissioner. I believe the number of people who voted could have increased had it not been for the weather,” he said.

The final tally showed the UDC leading with 6,766 votes, followed by the BDP with 3,926, the BCP with 946, the BPF with 99, and 46 spoiled ballots.
