Mahalapye Central Police Station assistant commander, Superintendent Moathodi Onalenna, confirmed the incident and said they received the report at around 1:45 am.
According to Onalenna, initial investigations indicate that the vehicle, driven by a 39-year-old man from Tshikinyega Ward in Mahalapye, was travelling from north to south when it hit the pedestrian, who was attempting to cross the road from the east to west.
“The driver reported the incident to the police immediately after it occurred. The deceased, who is originally from Otse, was taken to Mahalapye (District) Hospital, where he was certified dead on arrival,” Onalenna said.
Police have since urged motorists to remain alert at all times, especially when driving at night, and cautioned pedestrians to wear reflective clothing when walking along the roadside at night. Investigations into the accident continue.
