Mogoditshane Police Station commander, Superintendent Mbiganyi Letsholathebe, confirmed the incident, saying the stabbing reportedly occurred around 4 am but was not immediately reported to the police.
He said the police only learnt of the matter at around 10 am when nurses at Julia Molefe Clinic notified them after the victim was brought in for medical attention.
“Upon arrival at the clinic, we found that the victim had sustained a serious chest wound, believed to have been caused by a sharp object. He was later referred to Princess Marina Hospital, where he is currently hospitalised but in a stable condition,” Letsholathebe said.
He added that the suspect, the victim's 33-year-old stepson, was arrested the same day in connection with the incident. Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the stabbing.
Letsholathebe urged members of the public to promptly report violent incidents to the police to enable swift intervention.
