New Letlhakane Police Station commander, Superintendent Unoziba Rari, said they received a report of the unlawful wounding incident at around 11 pm after the victim was found lying by the roadside, bleeding profusely.
According to Rari, the victim sustained seven stab wounds inflicted with a sharp object, and police have since launched investigations to establish the motive behind the attack. “We do not know if he knows the people who injured him or not. We have since arrested three men aged 20, 23, and an 18-year-old boy in connection with the offence. They were arrested on Saturday and are currently in police custody for investigations,” Rari said.
He added that a fourth suspect managed to escape during the arrests and remains at large. Police have launched a manhunt to locate and arrest him.
Rari further revealed that one of the arrested suspects was already on the police wanted list for a robbery case.
“We do not know if they knew each other or if it was a robbery attempt that went wrong. It is possible that when he resisted, they decided to stab him. We are hopeful that after interviewing both parties, we will be able to make a breakthrough,” he said.
The victim is currently hospitalised at Letlhakane Primary Hospital and remains in critical condition.
