Raokgwathile dominated the bout from the first round and floored his opponent with a technical knockout in the third round Speaking to Sport Monitor, he said his victory is an indication of the hard work he had put in.
Raokgwathile also revealed that his power, agility and endurance worked well for him adding that boxing is the same all over, as a jab is a jab.
“I was not scared, I came here as an underdog while my opponent was more experienced. I followed instruction from my coach, Bond Ngubula to the letter,” he said. “As a man I had to fight, I have been told that I am a tough man and that was a motivation. I am a soldier, I do whatever you tell me to do.”
In another interesting bout, George Molwantwa overpowered Ronald Motswakae for the third round to achieve his second victory in professional boxing.
Tefo Letshikgwane had to dig deep for a win against Thapelo Molatlhe in a six round thriller bout.
Meanwhile, Tshepiso Mokgadi fell short as Solomon Lere of Molepolole Boxing Club overpowered him.
Lere explained that the bout went according to plan although preparations were not smooth. He told Sport Monitor, that picking a win from an experienced boxer like Mokgadi is a huge achievement.
“It is an indication that I am growing in my division, for now I do not think anybody can stop me. Mokgwadi was slow, I attacked him, he dropped his guards and I capitalised on that.
“He was not defending, so I was able to score more punches,” Lere stated.
For his part, Letshikgwane said the fight was tough and the ring was heavy because he had not been active.
According to him, his opponent thought he was going to tire quickly but that was not the case as he started to dominate the fight from third round.
Still in the game, Lentswe Zwinila had his work cut for him to claim victory against Akili Sikosana of South Africa in an eight round clash.
The tightly contested match saw many body clinching, forcing Zwinila out of the clinch with powerful combinations. Zwinila said he did not prepare well for the fight and felt tired in the third round. He stated that the situation was worsened that his opponent turned the bout into a wrestling contest.
“When I was gaining momentum, he clinched me. I also started to push him because the referee was not doing anything,” he said. “One thing I have learnt is not to rush an opponent, but sometimes I take long to read an opponent. I think I lost second, third and fourth rounds but I managed to recover.” For his part, Molwantwa said he decided to knockout his opponent because he could see his opponent was fatigued and there was no need to go for six rounds.
He added his next step is to challenge for an international bout because he feels locally he has done it all.
Tshephang Gomotho stopped his Zimbabwean opponent while Fania Musekwa dominated the entire match.
Meanwhile the event organizer, Ngubula said the local boxers have shown maturity and made the event success. He said Batswana should start believing in their own talented boxers.
“The boxers are growing, give us a year or two, they will be causing an upset internationally.
“We had a good successful camp, that is where we started winning. I do not want to rush our boxers. Let us take it one step at a time,” Ngubula said.
