Mogaetsho, the founder and creative director of Garments of Honour Fashion House, won the prestigious Mr. Price Mentorship program after mesmerising judges with her fashion line at the recent Fashion Without Borders Botswana fashion show held in Gaborone.
Her fashion company, established in 2018, specialises in designing high-quality garments for men, women, and children across various styles.
'I'm honored and absolutely excited to have won. The win still feels surreal, but I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity. It's a dream come true,' she said.
Mogaetsho's designs fall mostly in the street and urban wear category, blending cultural heritage with innovation and creativity.
Winning the Fashion Without Borders Botswana competition has motivated Mogaetsho to aim for even bigger achievements and boosted her confidence. 'For the company, it can benefit us by providing us with a platform to showcase our talent, gain exposure to industry professionals, and access opportunities for growth and development,' she said.
During the internship, Mogaetsho expects to learn new, valuable skills, gain industry insights, and gain practical experience. 'I aim to use this opportunity to develop my personal brand, build my portfolio, and establish cross-border connections within the industry,' she said.
Mogaetsho's fashion house has participated in several major fashion events, including the Wine, Women, and Fashion Show and the Comfy Pants Fashion Show. She also hosted her own fashion and talk show, 'Botho, Setho, BoModimo,' which brought together five talented local designers.
As a local fashion designer, Mogaetsho faces challenges such as limited access to resources, funding, and exposure. However, she remains determined to establish herself as a household brand and become one of the prominent figures in the fashion industry.
'I am passionate about using art to bring hope and healing to the broken-hearted and abused. My craft and movement balance very well because art and fashion are at the core of it all,' Mogaetsho said, highlighting her NGO Movement, Nxlee Kalaatje advocates for healing people.
Mogaetsho advises aspiring artists to focus on developing their skills, building their brand, and networking within the industry.
'Stay true to your unique voice and vision, and be open to learning,' she said.
The Mr. Price Mentorship program is a significant opportunity for Mogaetsho to grow her brand and contribute to the development of the fashion industry in Botswana. With her talent, determination, and passion for art, Mogaetsho is poised to make a lasting impact in the industry.
The internship is scheduled to take place at Mr. Price Group's headquarters in Durban, South Africa, next year. Mogaetsho is excited to learn from industry professionals and gain valuable experience that will help her establish herself as a leading fashion designer in Botswana.
As the fashion industry in Botswana continues to grow, events like Fashion Without Borders provide a platform for designers to showcase their talent, gain exposure, and access opportunities for growth and development. Mogaetsho's win is a testament to the talent and creativity of local designers, and her success is expected to inspire others to pursue their passion for fashion.
