Elderly man dies following Ranaka car accident

Southern Divisional Traffic Officer, Assistant Commissioner Boiki Mojalemotho told The Monitor that investigations into the exact cause of the accident are underway.

“Preliminary information suggests the elderly driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a culvert, resulting in severe head injuries,” he stated.

Mojalemotho added that the man, 85, also suffered a fractured right arm in the crash.

The victim was rushed to Kanye Adventist Hospital for emergency medical attention and was later transferred to Princess Marina Hospital.

He, however, succumbed to his injuries whilst receiving treatment.

Mojalemotho said the man was travelling alone at the time of the accident.

Meanwhile, the police chief has once again urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, especially as the festive season draws near and traffic volumes begin to increase.
