The event is aimed at raising awareness about albinism and celebrating people living with it.
Mareko Sekgopi was crowned the King after impressing the judges with his responses during the question-and-answer session. He explained his project that aims to tackle mental health amongst the youth, drug, and alcohol abuse, and expressed his desire to work with different stakeholders to make Botswana a better place.
'I aim to work with different stakeholders to make Botswana a better place,' he said. Brian Moremi was crowned the first Prince, while Gift Ntswakgolo was crowned the second Prince and also won the Mr Personality title.
On the women's side, Kgalalelo Tumoyagae was crowned the Queen, while Bongani Mokoena was crowned the first Princess and won the Miss Personality and The Rising Star titles. Lesego Koontsenyana was crowned the second Princess.
The beauty pageant featured various parades, including traditional attire, professional, trash-to-fashion, sports wear, and evening gowns. The contestants showcased their creativity and talent, with some making outfits using refuse materials such as plastic bags and cardboard.
Dr. Taolo Moshaga, who was in attendance, emphasised the importance of treating each other with love and respect despite skin color. 'God says no matter your achievements, humble yourself. Forget the color, chest out. We fail because we label ourselves. Self-doubt also leads us to failure. Stop labeling yourself,' he said.
He further pleaded with the public to support people with albinism and not to discriminate against them. 'We need to walk the talk and support initiatives such as Mr and Miss Beauty With Albinism Beauty Pageant to raise awareness and create unity among the nation at large,' he said.
