Dipuo, a rising local fashion industry star

This comes after she won the Mr Price mentorship program at the Fashion Without Borders Botswana showcase in Gaborone.
With a passion for fashion design that dates back to her childhood, Dipuo has worked tirelessly to build her brand and showcase her talents to the world. Her journey to becoming a designer began when she accompanied her family to a tailor shop for a family wedding. 'I was amazed to find a grown-up making dresses for other people and not just dolls. That is when I learned that making clothing is an actual career, and since then, I was determined to grow my passion and talent for fashion design,' she explained.
After graduating from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology with an associate degree in fashion and apparel design, Dipuo returned to her hometown, Maun, and successfully launched her own studio, SER CONSOLADO, in 2022. The brand specialises in bespoke garments for women, focusing on special occasions such as weddings, beauty pageants, and birthdays. Her hard work and dedication to her craft have paid off, as she has been selected for the Mr. Price internship program. 'Winning the Mr. Price internship has been a goal of mine for the past three years, so I am very excited about the opportunity. I expect to bring home more skills and knowledge that I can share with industry colleagues as well as the young people that I mentor and currently employ at my company, she said.'
Dipuo is committed to giving back to her community and plans to use her skills to empower young people in Maun. She said she would like to continue working towards more community engagement and collaborations with women empowering organizations in Maun.
Dipuo's message to aspiring designers is one of encouragement and hard work. She said people with less were doing way more, while some complain about not having enough.
'The important thing is to start now, with what you have, and do what you can. Work hard and work smart. Programs and platforms like Fashion Without Borders are there to empower you; take advantage and never stop trying your best,' she added.
With her talent, dedication, and passion for fashion design, Dipuo is poised for a bright future in the industry. Her brand, SER CONSOLADO, is a testament to her creativity, skill, and commitment to giving back to her community is inspiring.
