The event celebrated resilience and ambition under the theme, 'Today you celebrate achievement; tomorrow, you carry the torch of impact. The world awaits your brilliance'.
Of the graduates, 346 completed online and distance learning, whilst 330 studied through campus learning, representing the university’s strong dual model of access and innovation. Speaking at the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Dr Sheela Raja Ram reminded graduates that education is a lifelong compass. “Your education is not a ticket to a job. It is a ticket to life. Keep learning, questioning, and doing,” she said, applauding the perseverance of all students, especially the 434 women, including 144 postgraduate graduates, and urging employers to promote gender equity.
For her part, Boitumelo Mogopa, Chief Executive Officer of Metropolitan Botswana, praised Botho’s global partnerships with universities in South Africa, Germany, Sweden, Turkey, China, India, and the United States, which provide opportunities for exchanges, research, and practical exposure. She highlighted the dual study model, where students split their semesters between classroom learning and industry placements, graduating with up to two years of work experience. “Employers, this is your chance to welcome top talent,” she said.
Mogopa also celebrated entrepreneurship programs across all fields, including Business, IT, Hospitality, Health Sciences, Education, Engineering, and Communication, as well as partnerships such as the Mastercard Foundation program with Queen’s University in Canada, which equips graduates with innovation and leadership skills.
The 2025 Graduate Tracer Study confirmed Botho’s impact: 98% would recommend the university, 95% gained critical skills like problem-solving and adaptability, and over 90% developed teamwork, creativity, and communication abilities. “Botho does not just educate, it transforms,” Mogopa said.
She encouraged graduates to embrace technology and AI. “AI is not your competition; the graduate who uses it effectively will thrive. Combine your degree with AI literacy and you will shape the future,” she said.
