The event, which will take place on November 1, 2025, at Botho University, aims to fight stigma and discrimination against persons with albinism while promoting beauty and awareness.
Motladiile-Kenneth, a human rights defender and advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities, explained that the pageant is a call for action to address the misconceptions and myths surrounding albinism. 'Stigma and discrimination, always the last in the enjoyment of human rights, misconceptions and myths about albinism,' she said, highlighting the need for awareness and understanding.
'The pageant will feature six ladies and three gentlemen competing for the crown, with eligibility open to anyone with albinism. The event will include an official opening, intro parades, a panel discussion, entertainment, and a grand finale. The pageant has received support from various organizations, including Botho University, GU, Letlhage family, Eyelight Optometrist, and others,' she said. However, the organisers are calling on more sponsors to support the event and help improve the lives of persons with albinism.
Motladiile-Kenneth expressed frustration with the lack of support from the government and corporate sector, citing a lack of understanding and inclusion of persons with disabilities in decision-making processes. She urged the government to prioritise the needs of persons with disabilities and to support initiatives that promote their rights and well-being.
The pageant is expected to be an annual event, with a desire to grow and expand its reach and impact. The organisers are hopeful that the event will bring attention to the plight of persons with albinism and inspire change.
