The fatal accident, which occurred around 4:40am near the Industrial Site in Selebi-Phikwe, was confirmed by law enforcement authorities.
Police said preliminary investigations suggest that the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, may have been speeding when he lost control of the vehicle.
“It appears that he lost control of his Toyota Surf, which then hit a culvert and overturned,” Selebi-Phikwe Police Station commander, Superintendent Moathodi Makumula, said.
“We are yet to establish the exact cause of the accident, but indications are that speeding could have been a contributing factor.
“The driver sustained serious head injuries and was certified dead at the scene.”
The police boss expressed concern over the rising number of fatal accidents and urged motorists to drive responsibly.
“We continue to plead with drivers to avoid drinking and driving, to adhere to speed limits, and to observe all road signs. Many of these tragic accidents are preventable if motorists exercise caution and patience on the road,” Makumula added.
