Malope said the house had a planned tour as part of its mandate to monitor and assess the implementation of government programmes and the welfare of communities across the country.

However, due to financial constraints, Malope said the house had to forego the planned tour.

“We convene at a time when we are facing economic challenges as a nation, and I believe that we are all aware of the current financial situation. Traditionally, this October meeting should have comprised a local study tour for members to appreciate and review government projects,” Malope said.

Malope said Dikgosi would, for this year, be unable to go on the tour due to the measures imposed on the government when it comes to expenses.

“Due to the government austerity measures in place, we had to forgo the annual aforementioned oversight tour as there were financial implications associated with it,” Malope said.

The chairman said the dropped planned tour would have played a crucial role in the duties of the house, as it would have provided them with an insightful knowledge not only on projects but on communities too.

“It is worth noting that during these trips the house uses this opportunity to give back to communities in the areas we visit.

“And we do this, in line with fulfilling our social responsibility commitment in line with Vision 2036 Pillar on a compassionate and caring nation which promotes social welfare and care for its citizens,” Malope added.

As the house convenes for its fourth meeting this week, Malope said the session would primarily focus on validation of the sexual reproductive health rights package with the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA).

“As you may recall, during our June meeting, we had a very successful capacity-building workshop on sexual and reproductive rights and gender development. UNFPA will be hosting the house for the validation of the report,” he said.

Second on the table for the meeting, Malope said the house will focus on the consideration of the constitution amendment bill 2025 No.14 of 2025.

“Part of the mandate of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi is set to deliberate on Bills referred to it by the National Assembly in accordance with Section 88 (2) of the Constitution of Botswana,” he said.

He said the house will debate the bill as it has been referred to them, and Dikgosi will come up with their viewpoint regarding the proposed amendments and form an appointment which will then be communicated to the assembly.

Towards the end of the meeting, the house will go back to the house business which includes questions and motions.
