Gantsi Police Station commander, Superintendent Dennis Zilawe, said the tragic chain of events began when police received a report about a man who had been found lying unconscious by the roadside with visible injuries on his body.
The report came from two men who were driving along the A3 road that fateful night.
“Police rushed to the scene and found a 46-year-old man in critical condition. He was taken to a local clinic and later referred to Gantsi Primary Hospital for further treatment.
“He is currently hospitalised and responding to treatment,” Zilawe said.
The police chief stated that upon regaining consciousness, the injured man told them what transpired.
According to the Zilawe, he said he was attacked by another man whilst he was sleeping with his girlfriend, but managed to escape from the intruder.
Zilawe stated this information led investigators to the girlfriend’s home, where a gruesome discovery awaited them.
“Upon arrival, police found the 43-year-old woman of Bodibeng lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds,” he said.
Following footprints that led away from the house, police followed the trail to another yard where they discovered the body of a 42-year-old man from Sehithwa hanging from a tree.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased man who hanged himself might have murdered his former lover before taking his own life.
“We have learnt that the duo used to be lovers and had separated a few weeks ago. The injured man is the woman’s current boyfriend,” Zilawe explained.
