BCP embarks on constitutional review

President Dumelang Saleshando said the review seeks to build upon their past efforts and create a document that will serve as a guiding framework for future generations.

He also said that by reviewing its constitution, the BCP aims to establish a robust framework that will guide the party's operations, ensure stability and protect it from potential challenges.

Saleshando stated that all members would be given a platform to contribute to the review process, ensuring diverse perspectives and ideas are incorporated.

The BCP president emphasised the importance of inclusivity during the constitutional review.

'Let all the ideas be thrown on the table. Everyone should feel free to contribute,” he said when speaking during the party’s constitutional review conference recently.

Saleshando indicated that he constitution should promote democracy within the party, strengthening leadership accountability and social democracy.

He stated that through the constitution review, the party foster a more inclusive and dynamic leadership structure with a representation of women and youth in leadership positions.

'We have to find a way that our party allows the youth to flourish and have more young people as part of the party leadership,' he added.

The constitution should enable the party to hold the government accountable as an opposition party and ensure effective governance if it becomes the ruling party, he said.

He expressed hope that the reviewed constitution would position the party for success in the 2029 General Election and beyond.

Furthermore, Saleshando pointed out that many parties without a proper constitution are vulnerable to manipulation by opportunistic politicians.

He highlighted that a well-crafted constitution would provide a framework for handling such challenges.

Saleshando stated that the party also plans to introduce new leadership under the revised constitution.

He stated that after the conference, the party will be focusing on Kgalagadi South, an area where it has been absent for the past 10 years.
