The meeting followed the resignation of the committee then led by Phempheretlhe Bafana Pheto after mounting pressure from club members.
The outgoing executive was criticised for presiding over one of the most difficult financial periods in Rollers’ recent history.
In their final weeks in office, Pheto’s committee indicated that they were close to concluding a deal with a potential investor, which was expected to be finalised soon.
Speaking after his election, Onkabetse said the new leadership will not start from scratch but rather build on the groundwork already done by its predecessors.
“We will continue from where they left since there is a good spirit of handover. We will look at what they have been doing during the official handover and decide whether to continue with it or explore other alternatives,” the new chairperson said.
“We are also eyeing a few potential investors, and from there we will weigh the options and see how best to move forward,” he added.
The newly appointed committee will serve on interim basis until the club’s Annual General Meeting scheduled for July next year.
It is completed by Ofentse Mosekiemang as Secretary General, Isaac Moreri, Masego Tshipinare, and Katokato Freeman, who takes over as Public Relations Officer. A treasurer will be co-opted in the coming weeks.
Onkabetse added the committee’s immediate focus is to stabilise the club’s financial situation and ensure smooth preparations for the upcoming Gaborone Derby against Gaborone United on Saturday.
“We want to improve the situation at the club. Even if not fully fixed, we want to make it better. We want to see Rollers doing well both on and off the field,” he said.
Township Rollers are currently on top of the FNB Premiership standings, but off-field issues continue to cast a shadow over the club.
The team remains in debt running into millions of pula, while players' morale has been affected by recent financial challenges and administrative changes.
The transition process between the outgoing and incoming committees is expected to be completed this week.
