Over the weekend, Young stars' unbeaten streak was put to an end by Notwane under the tutelage of Daniel ‘Chico’ Nare. The defeat saw the away side being dethroned by Dinare at the top of the league table. With the team now second and the league taking shape, coach Moseki has rebuffed claims that Young stars have no ambitions of playing in the top tier league. In the past, Young stars had earned an automatic promotion to the Premier League but sold their status to Extension Gunners.
“We always play the league to compete. I don't know where this comes from because there is no team that comes here and play to sell the status,” Moseki said. The gaffer also emphasised that just like any lower league side, their desire is to see themselves in the higher league. “We always play to compete and to win the game and if you look at it, the team sold the status only once but it is like it has happened so many times,” Moseki said.
Reflecting on the heavy loss ,Moseki said they had anticipated a tough game from the home side which is exactly what they got. “We knew it was going to be a difficult game. But of course we tried our level best, we started very well. Unfortunately for us , they scored too early which forced us to change our tactics,” coach said. Eager to put the loss behind him, Moseki said it is time to focus on his next opponents and make sure that this time around his side does not slack down. “It is okay we lost this one but we will go and work out on the next game by fixing our mistakes,” he said.
On the other end, coach Nare was beaming with elation as his side put an end to the invincible Young Stars. Nare said they carefully prepared for Young Stars as they knew that they are not an easy side. “We are approaching every game trying to win but we respect the opponent. We appreciate that they are a good side and I thought from a tactical point of view, it was a highly contested game,” Nare said.
As his side is off to a good start early into the season, Nare said the team is still in its building phase. “Even if we had gotten a draw from them, we would have been fine because we are a work in progress while they have been together for three years and the score is not a true reflection of the game,” he said.
In the game, Notwane broke the deadlock three minutes into the game with a well built up move by Itumeleng Motlhabane putting in a cross for Alphius Selefho who easily tapped the ball into the open net.
It was not long, Young stars got the equalizer through Thabang Aphari who easily composed himself and rounded the keeper to level matters.
From the break, Notwane restored their lead through Kaboyaone Mosope after taking a giant leap inside the box to head the ball past the keeper. Ten minutes later, Mosope got his brace to put the final nail in the coffin.
