Rollers face BFL action

Yesterday, the BFL announced that Rollers had been charged for failing to honour a league match against Calendar Stars last month as the club battles internal challenges.
The club heads to Palapye tomorrow for what could be a watershed moment, as it seeks to resolve a leadership conflict that is retarding progress.
After Rollers failed to field a team against Calendar Stars, the BFL, through a statement, expressed its concern over the situation, indicating the league office might be forced to intervene.
Speaking to MmegiSports yesterday, BFL CEO, Billy Sekgororoane, said Rollers' situation warrants intervention, particularly when the team fails to fulfil fixtures.
'The BFL regards a matter as warranting intervention when a club's internal challenges begin to affect its ability to fulfil its league obligations, such as honouring fixtures, meeting administrative requirements or maintaining the standards expected under the League's constitution,' he said.
'The BFL monitors all developments within its member clubs, particularly where such issues have the potential to affect the integrity or orderly conduct of the League,' Sekgororoane added.
On possible actions, the BFL chief said that if the situation persists or deteriorates, the matter can be referred to judicial bodies.
'Should such a situation persist or worsen, the BFL may, in line with its Constitution, refer the matter to the appropriate judicial body, including the National Dispute Resolution to Chamber, or take administrative measures necessary to safeguard the smooth running of the league,' he said.
'Our overriding principle remains that the integrity and orderly conduct of the League are paramount, and any actions taken are guided strictly by that principle.'
Rollers' committee, led by Bafana Pheto, has seen calls for its removal grow, with weekend reports that some of the members had jumped ship.
The club issued contradictory statements over the developments, with eyes now on the Palapye meeting for a way forward.
Despite Rollers' precarious financial position, the team has started the season brightly, unbeaten in six games as it sits top of the standings with 14points.
After the international break, the team is scheduled to play Gaborone United in the Gaborone derby and Popa faithful will hope that the boardroom issues are at least resolved by then.
