Nomination of candidates for the by-election will be received on October 23rd, between 9am and 5pm at Tsabong Primary School. The Kgalagadi South constituency position became vacant after the death of the former area MP, Dr Micus Chimbombi.
“The president further directs that any poll which becomes necessary shall be taken on November 15th, 2025,” reads a statement from the IEC.
Meanwhile political parties have already announced their candidates. Following protracted battles in the Botswana National Front on the candidate to represent the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), the party has picked Tokyo Modise as its consensus candidate.
The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), has officially announced Diana Kaaetze as its candidate. Kaaetze represented BDP at the polls last October but lost to the late Dr Chimbombi.
The Botswana Congress Party (BCP), meanwhile, has announced Tshepang Brooks as its official candidate.
In the 2024 general election, the UDC won Kgalagadi South with 8,700 votes, while the BDP was the runner-up with 6,070. The Botswana Patriotic Front received 1,074 votes.
