Appearing before Extension II Magistrate Court today, Mongwaketse was charged with two counts of threat to kill and rape after the state moved an application to consolidate the charges he is facing.

The accused (Mongwaketse) did not contend the application moved by the State and acceded that his charges be consolidated. As per the new amended charge sheet, it is alleged that on July 14 at Tlokweng, Mongwaketse sexually violated the complainant (names withheld) at the fields without her consent.

On the second count Mongwaketse is facing a threat to kill charge. He is alleged to have threatened to end the life of Mmannana Mosarwa at Tlokweng in September.

Mongwaketse is accused to have said ‘Ke tla go bolaya ke kile ka bolaya motho’ to the complainant who when fearing for her life reported the accused. This also happened at Tlokweng.

Meanwhile a plea to all the charges has been reserved by the court.

The State represented by Sergeant Olatlhilwe said the investigations are still at an infancy stage and the accused should not be granted bail.

“Investigations are not yet complete as we are still waiting for the forensic results and the accused is remanded in custody,” Olatlhilwe said.

With the State presenting that the investigations are not yet complete, the accused pleaded to be granted bail.

“I only have one plea which is to be granted bail and wait for the trial while outside,” he demanded.

However, the presiding Magistrate Kamogelo Mmesi further remanded the accused in custody ordering that he can argue his case in the next status update.

“The case is adjourned to October 27 for status update and for bail hearing where the defence will advance their reasons for the bail application,” she ordered. The case continues.
