Confirming the incident, No.13 District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Mmoloke Sebako, said the deceased had been staying with his uncle. Before the tragic discovery, the uncle had reportedly gone to a nearby mall for shopping and, upon returning home, tried to call his nephew to help him unload groceries from the car, but got no response.

“When the uncle went to check inside the house, he found the young man lying on the bed with a shotgun beside him. We strongly suspect he shot himself, but he did not leave any note explaining his reasons,” Sebako said.

Police have since launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the deceased obtained the firearm.

Police have urged members of the public to seek help and counselling whenever facing emotional or psychological distress instead of resorting to self-harm.
