The club is already set to face disciplinary hearing after it failed to honour the league fixture against Calendar Stars a fortnight ago following players refusal to turn up for the game citing unpaid wages.

The players have reportedly made their intentions clear that they will not turn up for upcoming matches until they are paid while also calling for the resignation of the executive committee.

Following the turbulent week, some members of the club convened an emergency meeting over the weekend where they declared a state of emergency until the next annual general meeting which they said, is scheduled at the end of the current season.

At the same meeting, the members resolved to recall the current executive led by chairperson, Bafana Pheto. They also recalled National Branches committee members and elected a steering committee, which would run the affairs of the club on interim basis.

The steering committee released a statement over the weekend warning that any deals done via ‘old’ committees shall not be considered deals for the club.

However, the club released another statement on the same day distancing itself from the said meeting and its resolutions.

“Township Rollers Football Club formally informs members and other stakeholders that the club did not hold a general assembly on this day at Mogoditshane.

“As such, the resolutions communicated from some quarters are not valid. The executive committee and national branches committee remain in office and club communications channels the same,” a statement reads.

The statement further said the club will hold a constitutional special general meeting this coming Saturday in Palapye.

The conflicting statements from both camps have put some supporters in panic mode, fearing for a prolonged standoff, which could impact negatively on the performance of the team.

Popa currently sit at the summit of the FNB premiership table.

There are also fears that the current situation could put the club in trouble with the league authorities if a common ground between the two warring factions as well as players is not reached.

The Botswana Football League (BFL) despite not saying much, has already released a statement to the effect that it was monitoring the situation closely.

The BFL also warned that the integrity and orderly conduct of the league remain paramount and that any actions taken will be guided by this principle.
