The academy was granted provisional membership into the Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) by the Tsoseletso Magang-led executive committee, and it is now waiting for endorsement. Speaking to MmegiSport, Briteline's head of technical, TJiyapo Madeluka explained the endorsement did not proceed during the congress as expected because it was not in the programme.
He said the academy was established this year, and they train players from seven to 21 years old. He added their motto is ‘cultivating volleyball excellence in the country’.
Madeluka said according to the annual plan, they organise one Elite tournament, a volleyball festival, one Masters tournament, one Social tournament, and they are left with the Youth tournament, which is scheduled for December.
“The setup for the tournament that we recently hosted at Botho University in Gaborone showed how serious we want our sport to be taken. Our players had the opportunity to see elite players playing, and that is a motivation for them to push for more.
“You cannot take away the masters and elite players from kids. They should constantly see how it was done and how the elite continue to do it, so that they may have targets,” he said.
Meanwhile, Madeluka revealed they organised a volleyball festival which saw the academy players aged seven to 19 years, displaying skills in the court.
The games were followed by Master matches, which were played by both men and women. The masters men’s category was won by The Gods, whilst Bagaka walked away as champions in the women’s category. He said after the Masters challenge, it was a battle for the Elite clubs, which were in the top four during a top-four voting competition.
The women’s Elite section included Spiking Stars, Mafolofolo, Police VI and MagStimela. The men’s category comprised Police VI, Prisons, Spiking Stars and MagStimela.
Stars emerged as the women's champions, whilst Police emerged as the men’s champions. Madeluka said the teams shared P30,000.
The tournament was sponsored by Vision Sports, Next Pound, Bots-Lee Tv, and Executive Catering.
