The tournament promises a showdown for honours across senior and junior categories, including men’s and women’s singles, doubles alongside mixed doubles events. The break in the league comes hot on the heels of an inspiring performance by league stars,Tshepiso Rebatenne and Tshireletso Samuel, at the Angola Independence tournament.
Both players translated their sizzling domestic form into spectacular runs at the continental event, although they fell just short in their respective finals.
Rebatenne, unbeaten in her first four Super League matches with four wins and eight points, dominated the women’s draw in Luanda but was edged out by a seasoned Angolan opponent.
Samuel, who leads the men’s league with six points from four games, also reached the men’s final before succumbing in a tight contest, proving why he is one of Botswana’s rising table tennis stars.
Back home, the Super League has been heating up. Midweek results show Bakang Maloka atop the men’s standings with nine points from five games, followed by Mompati Chabe with seven points and Tshephang Mogala, also on seven, both having played a game less than Maloka.
In the women’s league, Rebatenne remains firmly at the summit with eight points from five games, whilst seventh-ranked Sibongile Six and eighth-ranked Constance Kuswani are level on eight points, each with a game in hand.
The Independence Grand Finale will serve as a breather to the exciting 2025 Super League, giving paddlers nationwide a chance to test themselves in a high-stakes environment and gain momentum for the remainder of the season.
With domestic form and international experience combining, Botswana’s table tennis stars are not only building confidence but also strengthening the country’s ambitions on the continental stage and beyond.
