The business of the company is sorting, valuing, selling and marketing of an aggregated mix rough diamonds supplied by the DTC (the rough diamond distribution arm of the De Beers family of companies and is the world's largest supplier of rough diamonds).

With the conclusion of the transition from Botswana Diamond Valuing Company and progressing away from being a cost centre to being a fully-fledged commercial entity with new processes and systems in support of its new business model, DTCB strives to be the employer of choice in Botswana. It prides itself as being the largest rough diamond sorting house in the world.

There have been media reports about the state of industrial relations within the company. Allegations have been levelled against the company that it does not respect its conditions of employment and that the company pays its employees below the market rate.

In response, DTCB would like to state for the record that the wage negotiations that have been the subject of media coverage are not controlled by the actions of management, but that it is a process that requires the agreement between the Union and Management.

The issue of competitive terms and conditions of employment is of paramount importance to DTCB. The company participates in the Botswana annual remuneration survey conducted by Tsa Badiri Consultancy and the Hay International Group to ensure competitiveness in the market. DTCB would also like to state that it is not just offering a review of basic salaries and benefits but in addition it offers a generous non-wage benefit package.

DTCB assures the public that it satisfies and meets requirements of the Labour Legislation in Botswana in so far as its working conditions are concerned. All employees are treated with dignity and fairness in accordance with the requirements of the Law and our own conditions of employment.

The company has a robust and flexible learning and development strategy that encourages the development of appropriate skills and talent in the company.Additionally, the company takes the issue of safety, health and environment (SHE) very seriously and to this end, DTCB has invested in the employment of a competent SHE officer to monitor and evaluate the implementation of its comprehensive SHE programme. The company has an employee health and wellness programme in place that is at the disposal of all DTCB employees.
