This time, a 42-year-old man from Metsimotlhabe was arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of sachets of a white substance suspected to be Cat, as well as boxes of Chelsea cigarettes, which are prohibited in Botswana.

Confirming the arrest, Mogoditshane Police Station commander, Superintendent Mbiganyi Letsholathebe, said officers acted on a tip-off that the suspect might be dealing in drugs.

“Initially, police found him with four sachets containing a white powder suspected to be methcathinone. Upon searching his house, they further retrieved 44 sachets of the same substance and two large boxes containing 20 packs of Chelsea cigarettes,” Letsholathebe said.

He added that given the quantity of the suspected methcathinone and the cigarettes, police strongly suspect the man was trading in illicit substances.

The suspect has since paid an admission of guilt fine of P1,000 for possession of the cigarettes, but police investigations are ongoing regarding the white powder.

“We are yet to take the white powder for further testing and analysis at the laboratory to confirm whether it is methcathinone, as we suspect. Investigations are still ongoing,” Letsholathebe said.
