Magosi recorded only their second win of the season in four outings after overcoming newly promoted Santa Green 3-0 at the GU Stadium on Friday evening.

Though unbeaten, Chiefs’ start has been relatively slow. The side sits fifth on the log with eight points from four matches.

Both their victories have come against newcomers, Calendar Stars, a fortnight ago and Santa Green this past weekend while they dropped points in draws against seasoned campaigners, Nico United and BDF XI.

Head coach, Pontsho Moloi was a satisfied man on Friday, praising his side’s second-half reaction after a laboured first half period. He believes the performance can serve as a building block as the season progresses.

“It is too early into the season and it is new team for us. We try to build one game at a time and we can only build from performances like this. I always say no matter the results, but if you can pick something out of your performance then you have something to work on or to work with,” said Moloi.

The first half produced little of note, with Santa Green content to sit deep while Chiefs enjoyed possession without truly threatening. Moloi turned to his bench after the break, introducing Hendrick Moyo and Ronaldo Fortune. The pair changed the complexion of the game.

With 20 minutes into the second half, Fortune won a penalty after being brought down by the goalkeeper. Tefo Mofokeng stepped up and calmly converted, sending the keeper the wrong way for his third goal of the campaign.

Chiefs pushed for a second, with Ibrohim Youssouf forcing a fine save and Gilbert Baruti testing the keeper with a long-range drive in the 70th minute.

The insurance goal came late after Brian Tafhi’s teasing cross found Fortune, who powered home a header to make it 2-0 on the 87 minute. Tafhi added a second assist in stoppage time, with his low cross tucked in by Kgotso Phuti to seal a convincing 3-0 win.
