Galaxy's goal led the game to a 1-1 draw, leaving many fans who thronged the Francistown Old Stadium sad as their cheers and chants of victory were suddenly replaced with gasps of shock and disappointment.
TAFIC head coach, Mandla Mpofu, however, said the 1-1 draw was a fair result for his side. He noted that they overcelebrated after scoring in the 90th minute, which allowed the opponents to equalise. Mpofu highlighted areas for improvement, particularly in terms of concentration levels. 'I think the goalkeeper could have done better in saving the ball. Instead of catching it, he punched it, which cost us the opportunity to win the game,' he said. Mpofu stated that they have learnt the hard way and thus will do better next time.
'Jwaneng Galaxy’s intention is clear because they play to win and have the players and resources to do so,' he added. Despite the last-minute disappointment, Mpofu praised his team's performance. 'I think we did well considering our previous match against Sua Flamingoes. The performance shows that we are getting better. We missed a chance to score in the first half, but we don't often get such opportunities when playing against top teams such as Jwaneng Galaxy and Rollers, who are always tough,” he said. Mpofu also said that while they wanted to win overall, they took a crucial point from the game. He congratulated the players on their improvement and encouraged them to build on the positives for their next fixture.
Meanwhile, Jwaneng Galaxy's coach Sean Connor commended his team for showing tremendous resilience. 'The team conceded a goal late in the game, but we showed character by coming back and earning a point,' he said.
