Former CEO, Tuelo Serufho left the organisation in May and despite expectations of a swift process to replace him, nothing has materialised.

Sources said candidates who applied for the job also remain in the dark about the process, indicating little movement.

Despite concerns, BNSC communications manager, Anderson Nlisana said the process was progressing well.

'I can confirm that the recruitment process is on-going, however, i have no precise comment on the matter as it is being handled through an outsourced service,' he said. 'Where we are, there are no known hurdles thus far, the process is moving on smoothly. Once the process has been concluded, we will be able to update on the matter,' he added.

In June, the BNSC board appointed Steven Makuke as acting CEO. In May, BNSC board chairperson, Marumo Morule said they expected the recruitment process to take three months.

'It has gone quiet and candidates who applied are asking questions. Maybe it is the issue of money as the Commission's financial position is well-known. But we wait and see,' said a source.

The process is being handled by a recruitment agency and has already courted controversy after it was claimed that some board members had applied for the post.

This was, however, not verified as the Commission declined to comment for fear of jeopardising the process. 'The process to recruit the substantive CEO has started with engagement with the Minister of Sport and Arts. The recruitment is guided by the BNSC Act,' Morule said in a previous interview. 'Although it is difficult to judge, it is a process that can take up to three months,' he said then.
