Palapye Police Station commander, Superintendent Koziba Phuluweni, confirmed the incident, saying a 41-year-old man was killed by his 34-year-old fellow citizen following a fight over an alleged girlfriend.
“Looking at the injuries the deceased has sustained, it looks like the suspect had beaten the deceased on the head with a blunt object, tied his hands and legs, and dragged him to the bush where he abandoned him,” he said.
Phuluweni further stated that the suspect was later spotted fleeing the locality with his belongings.
“He met another herdman who became suspicious of the way he was rushing. After parting ways with him, the herdman shared his concerns with others in the area. Together, they went to the suspect’s workplace, where they discovered drag marks leading into the bush.
“They followed the tracks and found the deceased lying motionless with his hands and legs tied up,” Phuluweni explained.
The matter was reported to the police, who immediately launched a search.
“Later that day, the suspect was arrested by Tonota police officers at a roadblock and handed back to Palapye police and he is currently in custody facing a murder charge. The deceased sustained a deep head wound, suggesting that he was beaten with a blunt object. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect is expected to appear before the Palapye Magistrate's Court this week,' he said.
