Known for her exploits in the half marathons, she made the leap to the more demanding 42.2km race and aced it at the first time of asking.
Pitted against a strong field, Bathoeng crossed the line in 2:49.08 fending off competition from Kenyan, Rosina Kiboino who finished the race in 2:53.25 while Neviah Maganzo was third with a time of 2:55.03.
For her efforts, Bathoeng took home P21,000 while Kiboino got P12,000 and Maganzo, P7,000.
The seasoned was naturally elated at winning the race in her first attempt.
'The route was good but I started feeling heavy legs at around the 38km mark and that showed me that I can complete the 42.2km race. Most of the time I do 10km and 21km races, then I told myself, why not try the longer one. From now I will start preparing for other local marathons like the (FNB) Kazungula marathon,' she told MonitorSport.
In the men's 42.2km race, Kenyan Lazarus Too, who recently won the Sir Seretse Khama marathon, beat a strong field to win the UB race.
'I am very happy that I won as I had prepared well. I predicted the field would be strong, but I am very happy I managed to beat the field. It is my second time to win,' he said.
'The course was a little bit faster and the athletes were strong. I had to be patient until around the 17km and then I started to push, then I saw I could push to the finishing level,' Too said.
Too's time of 2:18.41 proved too good for his rivals, with Tsaepang Mokhethi bagging second place with a time of 2:23.23. Diacore Athletics Club's Godiraone Mompe was third, finishing in 2:25.52. Too took home P21,000, while Mokhethi received P12, 000 and Mompe got P7,000.
The event was graced by Vice President, Ndaba Gaolathe who officiated the 10km race.
