Baisago University launches GBV centre

The centre shows the university’s part in playing its role in fighting GBV which is one of the biggest scourges troubling the country. The initiative brings together government, law enforcement, and healthcare and education system to implement strategies to combat GBV. Speaking during the launch, Baisago University founder and Managing Director, Odirile Gabasiane shared that the mandate of the whole centre stands to help curb GBV and empower people at large. He further emphasised that GBV is everybody’s business therefore, it should be tackled head on by the public as a whole. Gabasiane added that Baisago CGBVPE is not like any other centres offering the same initiative in different institutions countrywide.
He indicated that the centre chose to do things differently and stands out through a different angle, which they call radical approach. “The centre specifically focuses on GBV which came out as a result of the study conducted before. The centre for GBV is three pronged that is to say the centre focuses in three aspects to achieve its main goal, the first being educating and training people about GBV as a problem that needs to be observed and solved immediately through offering programmes focusing on gender issues. The other way is through community outreach and advocacy. By joining each other in combating GBV with the community at large and different stakeholders, the fight against GBV will actually be easy. Last but not least, research component which will dwell much more into the statistics behind gender issues,” Gabasiane further highlighted.
