Party president, Mephato Reatile, highlighted that at first they had three Members of Parliament in 2019.

He added that now, six years later, there are five legislators, with more than 20 councillors in local government, which Reatile said is very commendable. Speaking confidently at the party’s national conference in Molepolole on Saturday about the party’s progress, Reatile emphasised that this surge is more than just numbers.

He also said it is a powerful reflection of the people's voice, resonating with a message of hope, change, and empowerment. “This extraordinary progress is a testament to the dedication, sacrifice, and relentless commitment of every single member of the Botswana Patriotic Front.

“Since September 2023, our party’s share of the vote has more than doubled, not because of wealth, resources, or external support, but because of the unwavering courage, tireless effort, and selfless devotion of our patriots,” Reatile added.

The party president said they should have raised their voices for those who gave everything, 'the true backbone of this party'. Reatile recognised the campaigners, who travelled tirelessly from village to village, delivering the party’s message without transport, without allowances, and without resources, funding their work entirely from their own pockets, out of sheer dedication to the cause.

Furthermore, he said the BPF survives by the volunteers, who opened their homes, shared their meals, and gave their time and energy wholeheartedly, sustaining the work of the party from their personal resources, because there were no funds available for the party.

“Some even fund the party when it is in trouble. Therefore, we are not forgetting the brave souls who faced legal battles, who remained steadfast and loyal, never allowing fear, uncertainty, or the lack of financial support to deter them from serving the people and advancing the BPF’s mission,” he continued.

Reatile said the party cannot survive if members do not sacrifice themselves for it. He, however, requested members to work hard and ensure that they have structures in their constituencies that are active and alive.

Moreover, he reminded party leaders, especially Members of Parliament and councillors, that they deliver their promises to the people who voted for them and not to take them for granted.

He said they should not disconnect from their voters and should know their challenges at all times. He also reminded members that they had agreed with the ruling party, Umbrella for Democratic Change, that they would cooperate in Parliament and local government.
