According to the Botswana Police Service (BPS), the accident occurred when a Gaborone–Serowe-bound bus carrying 65 passengers collided head-on with the Audi A3 vehicle.

Both vehicles caught fire after the impact and were completely burnt. BPS spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Near Bagali, said the tragedy claimed the lives of the Audi driver and two passengers from the bus.

“The three were burnt beyond recognition. Five other bus passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Deborah Retief Memorial Hospital in Mochudi, where they are receiving medical treatment. The remaining 58 passengers managed to escape without injuries,' Bagali revealed in a media release.

Bagali further appealed to members of the public who may have missing relatives who travelled on the day of the accident to assist the police in identifying the deceased.

“Prior arrangements for viewing the deceased should be made with Dibete Police Station,' reads the media release.

Police investigations into the crash are ongoing.
