In his address, Maoketsa said that this year's proceeds will go towards addressing water challenges experienced in their region, particularly Letlhakane, which is faced with a significant shortage of water, hence the theme 'A Walk for Water'.

He stated that the water shortfall, exacerbated by the rapid increase in population, compelled them to commit to supplying the village with 500m³ of water per day in 2023.

Maoketsa indicated that this commitment has since been revised to 1,000m³ of water per day to reduce the impact of this shortage.

'Through your support, we aim to address Letlhakane village's water supply deficit, which currently stands at 1,200m³,' he stated.

According to Maoketsa, this is not the first time they have responded to water challenges in the Boteti region.

He stated that villages such as Mosu, Makgaba, Mmea, and Mokubilo, located far east of the same constituency, experience similar water issues.

'We saw it fit to select the construction of key water supply infrastructure as a legacy project for our Group Projects Business Partner, AMEC Wood, to resolve these challenges,' he added.

Additionally, he stated that this project started in 2024 in partnership with the Water Utilities Corporation and is currently 80% complete.

Maoketsa indicated that the aforementioned projects are geared towards making life brilliant, which is what Debswana stands for.

He highlighted that it is their commitment to create a positive and lasting impact on the people in their zone of influence.

He further said that this water project is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal Number 6, which focuses on ensuring access to safe, clean, and affordable water for their communities.

'Water is a basic right, and without water, there is no life. Water promotes a thriving environment for success in education, health, business development, and many other areas. It is a catalyst for many sectors and industries,' he said.

Speaking about proceeds from previous years, Maoketsa said that the projects allocated to the funds raised in the last years are progressing well.

The Rakops Primary Hospital Theatre refurbishment is scheduled to be completed in September 2025 at a final cost of P5.3 million, whilst the four classrooms in Mmea are projected to be completed in December 2025 at an investment value of P2.6 million.
