Father in custody for sexually assaulting six-year-old daughter

According to Kazungula Police Station acting commander, Assistant Superintendent Sefane Mokgethi, on the fateful late afternoon, the 38-year-old mother had left her boyfriend with the children, one of them being the victim and her siblings aged three and one.
'The couple stays together with their children. On the fateful evening, the mother had gone to visit her relatives in Kazungula, and when she returned home later at night, she found the kids alone, with their father having already left for work. When bathing them, the little girl started crying, and when interrogated, she disclosed having been sexually assaulted by her father, and the mother reported the matter to the police,' he said.
Mokgethi said the little girl is currently admitted at Kasane Primary Hospital, receiving medical assistance. He said the father was arrested that same night, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
'The suspect is likely to appear before Kasane Magistrate's Court, faced with a rape charge sometime this week. Of late, we have been recording high cases of defilement and rape cases of minors in our policing area, especially in Kazungula,' he said.
Mokgethi said they have been holding public reforms sensitising the public about Gender Based Violence (GBV), rape, defilement, and violent crimes, to mention but a few, but it seems like our efforts continue to fall on deaf ears.
'We are planning to do house-to-house campaigns to sensitise the public, including the children, about these issues in an effort to curb them before they escalate,' Mokgethi said.
