For its first installment, the festival which was themed, Ikitse Kgabo attracted a number of music lovers who witnessed not just the Sekgatla culture but also got the chance to see their favourite artists on stage.

Though there were continuous sound disruptions, Culture Spears did not let the glitches demoralise it.

The local traditional song and dance group kept on engaging the audience until the matter subsided and when the sound was back on track and continued with their sterling performance.

Seeing the group's splendid performances, the audience could not resist but flocked to where the group was performing. They came up with dance formation and joined the group in dance.

However, what was meant to be fun got to be disruptive for others as they got their views obstructed by some people who wanted to see the performances live.

They were all over the ground until they were told to let the VIP to enjoy the performances. Culture Spears treated revellers to beautiful performances as they performed some of their popular hits such as Re Bina Kgasa, Magadigadi and Ntsanyana Borikhirikhi.

Due to continuous sound disruptions, Culture Spears lead singer and founder, Kabelo Mogwe, decided to proceed and close their performances with one of their popular song, 'Kueletsana' as the revellers were asked to join in as promised.

They danced in circles. As it is a norm, Dr Vom continued doing his magic on stage. His performance was also one of the highlights of the event.

His ability to woe the audience onto stage worked well as he was joined by local choirs on stage together with the audience who carried sticks as they sung their favourite song 'Tsaya Thobane.'

Dikakapa Tse Ditona and Matsieng also kept the music lovers off their feet with their brilliant performances too.

However, in the mist of the day's events, those in attendance were engaged by the masters of ceremonies who called forth a few of the senior citizens on stage to show the youngsters how they used to dance to folklore songs back in the days.

Royal Jazz Band also kept revellers captivated during lunch time with beautiful old songs such as Silang Mabele, Abuti Thabiso Boela Gae and Manny more.

After their performance, Sedibelo Choir showed the revellers why Bakgatla remain the best in the traditional choirs (dikhwaere) in the entire country.

Later on, Mabutswapele Cultural Troupe serenaded the audience with 'hosana' traditional dance and song. To hype the event, they spread to different tents and danced for the audience whom some took the opportunity to show off their dancing skills and danced along.

Dilomakwati also treated the audience with a beautiful performance whilst afterwards, Tonki e Tshetlha made a grand entrance riding a house singing one of the local traditional dance and song groups song, then recited a praising poem. Local traditional song and dance group by the name, Rhuu, treated the audience with a beautiful performance as they dished out some of their beautiful songs such as Kwa Gae ko ke Tsawang, Tlotlang Kgosi, O Seke Wa Nyelela hymn turned into a traditional song.

According to one of the event coordinators, Tlamelo Letlole also famed as Petleke in the local heritage events industry, the event was hosted to unite the Bakgatla Ba Kgafela with the nearby tribes, bringing them together to celebrate and appreciate each other's culture.

He added that the event was hosted to raise funds for the school's upcoming Prize Giving Ceremony that will be held next month.

'The main challenges we faced when hosting the event was lack of funds. It seems like this is a difficult year as the government does not have money to support us.

'Even private companies are crying of lack of finances. However, this will not discourage us, we intend to host this event annually so that Bakgatla and other tribes appreciate and celebrate diverse cultures of this country,' he said.
