Affectionately known as Bafana Ba Letswai, the Sowa Town outfit has been steadily climbing the ranks since attaining their Premiership promotion in 2020. Their first taste of top-flight football was delayed by COVID-19 disruptions, ending the 2021-2022 season in eighth place. For the next two seasons, they stubbornly held onto that same position before exploding into their best-ever run in 2024–2025.
Under the guidance of their returning Serbian coach, Nikola Kavazovic, Sua shocked the league by finishing third with 59 points, only seven shy of champions Gaborone United (GU). They were the most lethal side in front of goal, scoring 63 times, whilst boasting one of the tightest defences with just 31 goals conceded.
This season, the Flamingoes want to take things a notch higher. Despite a quiet transfer window with just four signings, the fewest among the top-half clubs, the team believes the foundation is solid. Sua wasted no time proving it, opening their 2025–2026 campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win over Black Lions away from home. One of the winter singings, Segolame Boy opened his account with the salt pans' side, capping a good opening weekend.
Speaking after the match, assistant coach Innocent Ranku said the team’s ambitions remain sky high, as the team banks on ever-improving performances. 'We want to finish in a better position than we finished in the last season. That is why we did not sign so many players, we are just adding where we had problems and a lack of numbers and options. We were signing players that we needed to improve the squad,' said Ranku.
This afternoon, Flamingoes will test their mettle away to Orapa United in a 3:30pm kick-off at Lucara Stadium. Elsewhere, defending champions GU welcome Nico United at 6pm at the GU Stadium. Saturday brings a full menu of action, Extension Gunners host Santa Green at VTM Stadium, Calendar Stars travel south for their first Premiership clash against Mochudi Centre Chiefs at GU Stadium, whilst Palapye Stadium sets the stage for Morupule Wanderers against Township Rollers. Black Lions, meanwhile, host Jwaneng Galaxy at the Royal Aria Stadium. All the fixtures kick off at 3:30pm, with TAFIC and Police XI wrapping up the day's play at 6pm at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium. On Sunday, BDF XI and Matebele FC close off the weekend action at VTM Stadium in a 3:30pm showdown.
