No.12 District Traffic Officer, Superintendent Itumeleng Maruru, explained that the accident occurred between 1am and 2am at the Bokaa traffic lights.

'We don't know what transpired but it looks like the driver who was attempting to turn to Morwa village, lost control of his Honda Fit vehicle and it overturned, fell into a culvert leaving him dead,' he said.

'The vehicle had two people on board, the driver and one passenger, a 36-year-old man who escaped the accident with serious injuries.'

Maruru added that the passenger is currently hospitalised at Deborah Retief Memorial Hospital, fighting for his life.

He further asked drivers to avoid over-speeding and instead drive at recommended speed limits to avoid unnecessary road deaths.

The District Traffic officer said most of the fatal accidents occur as a result of drivers' attitudes, especially speeding, drunken driving or risky overtaking to mention a few.

Maruru further pleaded with drivers to be cautious and follow road signs while behind the wheel.

'We have lost more than five drivers on the road this year thus far and I am pleading with drivers to reflect on their attitudes on the road and save lives,' Maruru added.
