No.12 District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Mmoloke Sebako said the incident occurred around 4am.
The police chief revealed the victim, who lives alone, was abruptly roused by a loud noise as the intruder forced entry into her house.
“He destroyed her door, gained entry into the house and subsequently raped her before fleeing the crime scene,” Sebako told The Monitor.
“The matter was immediately reported to the police, and the victim was taken to hospital for medical assistance.”
He added that police have since launched a search for the suspect, who remains at large.
Investigations are ongoing and authorities have appealed to members of the public with information that may assist in the case to contact their nearest police station.
