Couple found dead in suspected murder-suicide

According to Tlokweng Police Station commander, Superintendent Baboneng Modiegi, the tragedy unfolded shortly after 7 am when neighbours overheard the couple quarrelling.
He said the heated exchange was followed by an unusual silence, which raised alarm amongst other tenants. “Neighbours knocked on their door but got no response, prompting them to report the matter to the police,” Modiegi said.
He said that after receiving the report, police officers rushed to the scene and also tried knocking, but when no one answered, they forced entry by breaking down the door.
'Police officers were met with a gruesome scene; the young woman was lying in a pool of blood with a stab wound, whilst her boyfriend was hanging from the roof rafters. We suspect the man stabbed her before taking his own life by hanging himself with shoelaces,” Modiegi explained.
He said they were rushed to Princess Marina Hospital, where doctors certified them dead upon arrival.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal incident.
'We do not know what they were fighting about, but these kinds of incidents remain a concern. I am pleading with people who are in relationships but are not yet married to avoid cohabitation,' he said.
