Addressing the media in Gaborone today, Babitseng said the women's side will receive $150,000 (approx. P2million) from CAF for their finishing third in their group. 'In recognition of their effort, half ($75,000) will be given directly to the team as a bonus at their homecoming (ceremony) on 20 August 2025. This is a clear message: when you work hard for your country, Botswana football will recognise you,' Babitseng said. Botswana lost two out of their three group stage matches to Algeria and Nigeria before they managed a 2-1 win in their final encounter against Tunisia.
However, this was not enough to see the team progress to the knock-out phase, a feat they achieved on their debut appearance in 2022. Meanwhile, the men's team, Zebras are preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers in September and October. Babitseng said the qualifiers will be followed by further training camps and tournament in Morocco in November. 'These matches are not just fixtures on the calendar, they are opportunities to fly the Botswana flag high, to show Africa and the world the strength, skill and determination of our national team,' Babitseng said.
