This was revealed by the outgoing BoBA president, Gilbert Khunwane, at the weekend elective Annual General Meeting (AGM).

He informed affiliates that boxing remains in tier two according to the Botswana National Sport Association (BNSC) scoring system.

Khunwane said the amount allocated in the financial year 2024 was P290, 000 in direct allocation and P200, 000 as a cushion amount. According to the departing president, the last elections, a treasurer was not voted but instead the executive committee appointed Refilwe Letshwiti.

“Moitshephi Nkabiti resigned from his position as publicity secretary in August 2023. Prior to his resignation, he was in breach of the constitution as he struggled to account for the funds given to him to buy internet modems for the executive committee. He later purchased the said modems and resigned,” Khunwane told the gathering.

“The then Vice president, Othusitse Mogotsakgotla, was charged by the executive committee with three counts related to his performance and character. He was charged with officiating our tournament under the influence of alcohol, failure to attend BoBA and BNSC strategy meeting and failure to disclose his criminal record prior to the 2021 elections.

“He was found guilty by the disciplinary committee and dismissed from executive committee.”

Khunwane also appraised the meeting that the performance of Taolo Tlouetsile during his tenure as secretary-general was unsatisfactory and several efforts were made to support him to improve but it was to be.

He revealed that BoBA lost a lot of information because of that.

“In March 2025, Tlouetsile resigned. Irene Ntelamo was appointed acting secretary general but she resigned in less than a month,” Khunwane added.

Meanwhile, Dirang Thipe is the new BoBA president after emerging victorious with eight votes followed by Lechedzani Master Luza who was voted by four clubs.

Ntelamo received three votes while Khunwane got only two votes.

The new vice president is Phetogo Tsheko who won over Hlanganani Digwere with nine votes to eight. In the initial count, the two candidates were tied at eight votes each.

Thipe told Sport Monitor that boxing is now back to where it belongs, the good times. He said the outcome of the results was not a surprise because he knew that affiliates believe in his roadmap to turn around boxing.

Reacting to the outcome of the elections, Khunwane said it was an honour to have been given an opportunity to lead BoBA.

“Elections are there to be won and lost. I did my part and members took a decision they saw it fit to replace me. That is democracy and that is what defines us.

“So, lastly I wish the new president all the best. He has my full support,” Khunwane said.

For his part, Luza said affiliates have exercised their rights and he respects that.

New committee: Phetogo Tsheko (vice president), Tshiamo Moalosi (secretary general), Letshwiti (treasurer), Boitumelo Taolo (competition coordinator), Kabelo Seleka (PRO) and Dintwa Sloca (add member).
