The Blue’s head coach, Srdan Zinojnov, says the weekend’s defeat to the Money Machine gave him a clearer picture of his squad and was also a wake-up call. Just a week before the start of the 2025-2026 FNB Premiership, Rollers and GU clashed in the Sunbet Charity Cup at the GU Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds registered a 2-0 win with goals from Omphile Ramoagi and Mpho Kgaswane, one in each half, giving the team bragging rights ahead of the new season.

For Rollers, it was a good test against the reigning champions. Zinojnov said the timing of the match was helpful ahead of the season as his players now have to wake up.

He admitted his side lacked intensity in the first half and played against instructions. However, he was impressed by the second half and believes his players are starting to absorb his playing style.

Zinojnov highlighted that his team has a conversion problem despite controlling the game. He said he wants his side to play with intensity, press hard, win the ball, and enjoy good possession.

“Generally we have a problem to score goals, we lack the penetrative pass, the killer pass. We conceded due to our mistakes and football is like that, if you do not scare then opponents will score.

“This is only one game and the league is more important. It is okay to lose one game and when the league starts you go and fight,” said Zinojnov.

Ramoagi gave GU the lead in the 35th minute, after receiving a long pass and lobbing the ball over Rollers goalkeeper Kabelo Dambe from outside the box.

Kgaswane doubled the lead in the 58th minute with a trademark shot into the bottom far corner after a strong run into the Rollers’ 18-yard box.
