Maun Police Station commander, Superintendent Joseph Lepodise, said the incident was reported on Saturday around 1:01 am by a police officer stationed in Komana.
The officer was alerted after the man was found by the roadside with visible injuries.
“Upon receiving the report, officers swiftly responded and rushed the victim to Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon whilst receiving treatment,” said Lepodise.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased may have been assaulted by members of the public after he allegedly stabbed someone with a sharp object.
However, police are now questioning the validity of the mob justice claims and suspect foul play.
Lepodise confirmed that two men, aged 21 and 33, both residents of Komana village, are in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
“We are still trying to piece together what happened. The details surrounding the supposed mob assault are inconsistent, and our investigations aim to establish the truth behind this man’s death,” he said.
Police urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to allow law enforcement to handle criminal matters.
